Gregtur helps you to understand the rich history of São Paulo and Brazil from a different perspective in the middle of the Atlantic Forest, with the contemplation of historical monuments and unforgettable views of valleys and coastal area through a set of hills.
The "Serra do Mar State Park" (Mount Range) is only about 50 kms from São Paulo downtown accessible by car in less than 1 hour. This astonishing mount range extends along the south and southeast coast of Brasil providing us with breathtaking views of the valleys through the set of hills.
The walk has total length of 9 kms and lasts about 5 hours, round trip, taking place on a paved old road with a winding route, ranging from light to medium level of difficulty, in the middle of the Atlantic Forest.
On clear days, visitors have a view of the coast and a set of cities including the first Portuguese settlement in Brasil, the city of Saint Vincent. The route reveals the rich biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest in contrast to the urban area.
The place is home to a precious environmental heritage, characterized by the Atlantic Forest of great scenic beauty, in addition to a historical-cultural collection that marks periods of development of the state of São Paulo.
The walk takes part of Calçada do Lorena (1792), the first paved path in Brazil that boosted trade and production connecting the plateau (São Paulo) to the coast. It was also part of the history of the whole country, since regent prince of Brazil Dom Pedro I, in September 1822, after climbing the Lorena path towards São Paulo, on the banks of the Ipiranga stream, proclaimed Brazil an independent country from Portugal.
Explore in the company of a tour guide who will escort you in your tour expedition, providing an interpreting service along the way.
After having such an adventurous day, rest on the comfortable drive back to your hotel.
The proposed walking itinerary is meant to take about 5 hours starting from the park's main entrance and finishing at the same place where the vehicle will be parked. Taking into account the pick-up and drop-off within the city area it may take about 8 hours in total. (read more about pick-up / drop-off on FAQ section)
